Orange Coast College awarded an AACC funded Teaching Scholars Partnership grant to help develop Science and Mathematics teachers using the Service Learning methodology. Twenty OCC teachers participate in the program over two years. |

Community Science Night held at OCC for K-6 grade children and families. OCC partners with Beckman@Science and Project Tomorrow to host over 2000 attendees. |

Orange Coast College presents four Family Science Nights at local elementary schools. Over 200 Service Learning students in various Science courses participate in the events. |

Seventh Annual Community Science Night hosted by Service Learning Office. Over 3500 people attend the workshop that is presented by thirty-two faculty, three hundred OCC Service Learning students, ten staff and numerous volunteers, including the local Kiwanis. |

The award was made in recognition of the partnership with Newport-Mesa Unified School districts in developing Science based Service Learning projects |

Representatives of Newport-Mesa Unified School District, Science Works (representing serveral local school districts) and the Orange County Department of Education met with Jay R, Yett and Stephanie Normandin to organize the upcoming event. |

Workshop for Service Learning Council held in June. Council addressed by Mark Lowry of CDC Orange County Food Bank regarding hunger in Orange County. Council visits Food Bank and packs food boxes for 2 hours. Council returns to college for discussion of a Food Bank activity and planning for future Service Learning projects. |

Members of Service Learning Council develop Service Learning projeccts for Fall 2007 semester. Projects centering around the CDC Food Bank are implemented in Anthropology, Business and Spanish classes. A Community Science Night project in robotics developed by Technology representative and an Environmental Water monitoring project was started by the Math and Science representative. The Counseling representative designed Service Learning projects for his Psychology of Happiness course. |

Two meetings of the Service Learning Council were held to discuss ongoing projects and to make plans for the upcoming semester. Susie Crandall of Science Works addressed the Council at the second meeting and discussed the needs of local elementary, middle school and high schools in our area. |

Service Learing Office hosted Eighth Annual Community Science Night in October 2007. Over 5500 people attended the event. Over 350 OCC Service Learning students, 35 faculty, 10 staff members, two sports teams, 12 elementary school teachers combined to make this the largest and best Community Science Night to date. |

Jay R. Yett asked to speak at Beckman@ Science meeting of K-12 teachers regarding Service Learning and the Community Science Nights. He suggested the implementation of an Orange County Science Night in the Fall 2008. |
