Why this Dance Program?
Orange Coast College's Dance Department enjoys a national reputation for quality, creativity and a comprehensive curriculum. The department promotes high artistic and technical standards. Instructors excel in their dance disciplines. Many dance faculty are outstanding performing artists and choreographers; several have beenrecognized by such major arts organizations as the national Endowment for the Arts,California Arts Council, Dance Resource Center and the Sankarabaranam Trust Madras. The student completing the two-year certificate program will come recommended from a highly respected dance program.
Dance Department Philosophy
The OCC Dance Department offers a comprehensive curriculum with dance courses in a variety of dance styles for all levels of students. Since its origin in 1962, the OCC dance programs have embraced the philosophy that effective training for professionals and non-professional dancers requires more than just a physical movement experience. The OCC Dance Department guides students to explore their own creative potential, to introduce them to the artistry of professionals through live performances, to develop insight, perception, understanding and evaluative skills and to enhance wellness and healthy lifestyles through the integration of the mind, body, and spirit.
