You may have heard how learning a new language can enrich your personally. On the one hand, it can broaden your horizons by opening doors to different cultures to which you'll have a new level of access, through your learned language. In this sense, it's an outward-looking endeavor, as you seek to communicate with those around you.
At the same time, it can also be a highly personal experience at the individual level. There is a Czech proverb that says, "Learn a new language and get a new soul". As you learn and become more proficient in a language, you may discover that certain aspects of your personality become more or less pronounced in one language than another. Thus, as you develop skills that will allow you to further explore the world around you, you also embark on a journey of self-exploration.
There is yet another road you may travel as you learn a new language; and that is a path toward greater career opportunities. As you might imagine, the demand for bi- and multilingual individuals grows every year. Below, you'll find links to articles that address the question of how your language skills make you more employable, as well as links to websites dedicated to bi- and multilingualism.
