Admission and Application
Admission into the OCC Honors Program is not automatic. Students wishing to enroll must meet all admission criteria (see below) and submit an application. Applications will be accepted both from students currently enrolled in honors sections as well as from those who have not yet taken honors classes. Because past performance does not always indicate future potential, we encourage students who do not currently qualify for admission into the Program (see below) to work toward qualification by improving their GPA's in honors and non-honors courses, completing their English requirement and/or removing any derogatory grades from their transcripts.
In order to be admitted into the Program, ALL APPLICANTS must:
- Be enrolled in classes at OCC
- Provide documentation as evidence that the English composition requirement has been met in at least ONE of the following ways:
- Prior completion of English 100 (Freshman Composition), 101/101H, 102/102H, or 109 with a grade of B or higher - OCC or other college transcript
- Eligiblity to enroll in English 100 (OCC assessment testing placement, or completion of English 099 or ESL 199 with a minimum grade of "C") - copy of assessment test scores; or OCC or other college transcript
- Exemption from English 100 with an AP exam score of 3 or higher - copy of AP scores
Applicants who graduated from high school less than a year ago and who have earned fewer than 12 units in letter-graded college coursework must:
- Have a minimum final high school GPA of 3.25 (grades 9-12)
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 in all* college coursework completed
- Submit a copy of their final high school transcript with the application
Applicants who have earned 12 or more units of letter-graded college coursework must:
- Have a minimum 3.25 GPA in all* college coursework completed
* When turning in the application, students must submit transcripts for ALL colleges attended. Any derogatory grades (D, F, NC/NP) earned at OCC, or at other colleges during the two years prior to entering OCC must be "lined out" or "excluded"; exceptions through petition only.
Applications are available online, by email (hpro@occ.cccd.edu) or from the Academic Honors office (Watson Hall Room 287). Please review carefully the eligibility requirements outlined above before completing and submitting your application.

Note: You may complete the application online, save it to your computer as a pdf file and then send it as an attachment to the OCC Academic Honors Office (hpro@occ.cccd.edu); HOWEVER, you must also turn in transcripts for ALL college work completed (if you don't already have them on file with the OCC Records Office), as well as evidence of your AP English or OCC English Assessment Test score, if you're using either as proof that you've fulfilled the Honors Program English requirement for admission. You may scan these documents and e-mail them in jpg or gif format.
If you choose to print the application to turn in or mail to the OCC Academic Honors Office, please print it double-sided with the Orange Coast College seal at the TOP of the backside and the "Office Use" section upside-down at the bottom.
