"I heard about the Orange Coast College Film/Video Program from a friend in California. It is one of the only Community Colleges that offer a film program. At first I wanted only to take a few classes, then transfer to a four-year university, such as USC or UCLA. But, after taking some film courses at OCC, I realized that I was getting the same level of education for a fraction of the price.

I have worked with graduates from USC, UCLA, etc., and I can proudly say that I can compete with their level of knowledge of the film and video industry.

Winning an award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (over projects from the major four-year film schools in the country) has reinforced my belief that OCC's Film Department is comparable to them.

Since I have graduated from OCC, I have been assisting a producer with a major feature film to be shot in October. It will be directed by the Oscar-nominated director who directed "Gaby". "

"Orange Coast College Film/Video Department is a place where students have creative autonomy. You can grow creatively and learn the technology to be able to make a movie. If you have an idea you can make the film. It will be as good as the amount of time and creativity you want to put into it.

Personally, I feel that the end result is important, but the process is what makes it worthwhile. I think it's important not to be too hard on yourself when you're starting out, and have faith that you'll grow with every film.

While making films at OCC I've had the opportunity of showing my films to audiences at the annual Orange Coast College Film Festival. I was fortunate enough to win Best Film at two of the festivals.

Bill Hall is the Film/Video Department Chairman. I consider him to be an excellent instructor. He cares about his students and gives them the freedom to create. I especially like the fact that he knows all his students and is available to them. The rest of the staff have been helpful to me in more ways than I can mention. I am currently finishing, "Out of Control," a feature length script that I plan to produce and direct. The next feature script is also in the works.

Recently I read something that Ray Bradbury had said about writing, that I think applies to any venture in life. "The only way to fail as a writer, is to stop writing." So keep passing those open windows."

I always had a passion for film making, and Orange Coast College offered me the chance to do what I wanted to do. The Film/Video Department has very experienced and knowledgeable faculty who will show you how to get started.

At Orange Coast College the theory is supplemented by hands-on training. Learning how to operate cameras, professional VTRs, and editing systems, which are provided by the college, are only a few things I have learned in producing my shows.

Like any art class, I was critiqued on the shows I had produced, which helped me improve my work. Orange Coast College offers many classes to prepare someone for the real-world and I am glad that I made that move and joined their program.

"Orange Coast provided me with an excellent education in film and television production. OCC's faculty and staff create an energetic learning atmosphere that reflects their experience and knowledge of the industry.

The television and field production courses provided me with an opportunity to air my projects on local television. My production team's accomplishments were recognized by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

The film courses at OCC allow you to reach your creative potential in their production, editing, and scriptwriting classes. And now they have added Avid non-linear editing sytems. All this is available to us at a fraction of the cost of most major Universities.

I am now persuing my Bachelors degree at Chapman University in Orange, CA. My learning experience from OCC put me a step ahead of the rest with my prior exposure to the technology and techniques of film and TV production.

In the future, I hope to work in the production of corporate or commercial films and videos, utilizing my experience in project development, camera work, and editing."

"I came to OCC as a continuing student, having already comleted my Bachelors degree. My original goal was to acquire additional scholastic training, that I missed as an undergraduate, in order to prepare myself for graduate school.

During my time at Orange Coast, I have gained valuable practical and technical instruction in both film and video production. The direction I have received from the faculty has honed my skills as a filmmaker, as well as making me a valuable asset to thejob market. I am so confident in my education at OCC that I have decided to forego graduate school.

The great thing about the program at OCC is that it allows you to achieve at as high a level as you wish. The hands-on technical training is there, so one only needs the desire to create and perform. The faculty offers a current level of expertise as they come from predominantly professional backgrounds. It is a great oportunity for anyone who wants specific training to make them professionally viable in an extremely competitive job market.

Personally, I am excited by the emerging market for independant film production. I have spent the past summer working in a variety of positions on short and feature-length productions.

My eventual goal is to write and direct a feature film. So, currently I am preparing scripts for both. Additionally, I have an interest in sports videography. I have completed a short video on windsurfing, and plan to persue future projects of this nature as time permits."
