The Fall 2009 Application is Available
Mu Alpha Theta, the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society, "is dedicated to inspiring keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school and two-year college students" (Mu Alpha Theta, www.mualphatheta.org).
The OCC chapter of Mu Alpha Theta is beginning to establish itself as an active organization. The 2008-2009 president is Sarah Beach. Professor Mariana Voicu is the chapter advisor. A schedule of chapter meetings and activities will be posted on this website as they become available, so be sure to check back often.
Eligibility and Application Information
MAT invites qualified candidates for membership each fall and spring. Successful candidates are students who:
- have completed at least twelve (12) units of letter-graded coursework at OCC by May 31, 2009, including at least one of the following: Math 157, 170, 180/180H, 182/182H, 185/185H, 280/280H, 285/285H, 290/290H
- Grades of A or B have been earned in all qualifying math classes listed above; line-outs/exclusions for courses repeated or academically renewed and W's are OK
- have an OCC cumulative GPA of at least 3.25
There is a one-time application fee of $10.00; approved membership is permanent immediately. New members receive a certificate and Mu Alpha Theta decal, as well as a special notation of their membership on official OCC transcripts. Members of Mu Alpha Theta are entitled to purchase and wear honors regalia at their graduations.

Applications will be accepted at the Bursar's Office (located between Watson Hall and the Student Center Cafeteria). Acceptances will be acknowledged with an email confirmation and certificate of membership.
