Qualifications for Membership
Temporary Membership - current dues: $35.00
Students will be accepted to Temporary Member status, receive a certificate to acknowledge their membership, and a chapter t-shirt if they meet ALL of the following criteria:
v Are currently enrolled in classes at OCC
v Have never applied or accepted membership in Alpha Gamma Sigma
previously
v Have completed fewer than 12 units of coursework at OCC within the
last three semesters in attendance
v Have a minimum GPA of 3.50 for all coursework completed at a previous
institution (high school or college) OR are Lifetime members of the
California Scholarship Federation (CSF).
v Submit a completed application, evidence of your previous GPA (high
school or college unofficial transcripts are fine), indicate your size
for a chapter t-shirt, and remit the $35.00 dues payment (checks
payable to "Orange Coast College," please!)
Initial Membership - current dues: $55.00*
Students will be accepted to Initial member status, receive a certificate to acknowledge their membership, and receive a chapter t-shirt if they meet ALL of the following criteria:
v Are currently enrolled in classes at OCC
v Have completed at least 12 units of letter-graded (A-F) coursework
at OCC within the last three semesters in attendance
v Have earned a minimum Fall 2009 semester GPA of 3.50 AND
v Have earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 in all OCC coursework
v Have transcripts free of grades below "C" (including D's, F's, NP's; line-
outs and exclusions are OK; W's are OK)**
v Submit a completed application, indicate your size for a chapter
t-shirt, and remit dues payment in the amount of $55.00 payable to
"Orange Coast College."
* Initial members who were Temporary members in the previous semester pay only the difference between Temporary and Initial member dues ($20.00)
**Note: grades below C earned more than two years prior to an application for Initial Membership will not be used prohibitively.
Continuing Membership - current dues: $15.00***
Students will be accepted to Continuing Membership if they meet ALL of the following criteria:
v Are currently enrolled in classes at OCC
v Have earned a minimum 3.50 semester GPA in at least 6 units of
letter-graded coursework completed between July 1 and Dec 31, 2009
(coursework completed at another institution may be accepted under
certain circumstances; please provide a copy of your transcript from
that/those institution(s) with your application and dues payment)
v Have earned a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA in ALL college coursework
being used to determine eligibility
v Was granted Initial membership for coursework completed through
Spring 2009 OR was granted Continuing membership for coursework
completed through Spring 2009 OR was in an approved grace period
(see explanation of "grace period" at the bottom of this page)
v Have earned no grades below "C" since Initial Membership (line-outs,
exclusions, and W's are OK)
v Submit a completed application and a dues payment of $15.00 payable
to "Orange Coast College."
***Dues do not include the chapter t-shirt. Existing members may purchase t-shirts for $10.00 each. Please check off the "Additional t-shirt" box on the AGS application, and indicate your size preference (Small, Medium, Large, XL, XXL). Shirts are 100% cotton and will shrink with the first washing/drying. Please allow for shrinkage when selecting a size.
Permanent Membership - current dues: $20.00***
Students will be accepted to Permanent Membership in Alpha Gamma Sigma if they meet ALL of the following criteria:
v Were previously granted Initial AND Continuing Membership at this or (an)
other chapter(s)
v Were in Continuing membership status for coursework completed in Fall
2008 or were in an approved "grace period" for Fall 2008 performance
v Have earned a minimum 3.50 semester GPA in at least 6 units of college
coursework completed between January 2 and May 31, 2009
(coursework completed at another institution may be accepted under
certain circumstances; please provide a copy of your transcript from
that/those institution(s) with your application and dues payment)
v Have earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 in all coursework
completed
v Have completed or will complete a total of at least 60 units of college
coursework by December 31, 2009 (at least 54 units with letter grades)
v Have completed at least 30 units of coursework at OCC
by December 31, 2009
v Have earned no grades below "C" since Initial membership (line-outs,
exclusions, and W's are OK)
v Submit a completed application and final dues payment of $20.00
payable to "Orange Coast College."

Grace Period
Members earn one semester of "grace" for each semester of approved Continuing membership (applied and dues paid in full). A grace period may be taken when the semester GPA falls below 3.50 or when an entire semester's coursework is taken for credit only (CR/P, rather than letter grades); the cumulative GPA must remain above 3.50, and the member must qualify for Continuing or Permanent membership in the following semester or forfeit his/her membership. No more than one semester of "grace" may be taken between qualified renewals.
Members who are in a grace period may not hold elected chapter or statewide office, represent the chapter at conferences or conventions, and do not qualify for chapter or statewide scholarships.
Members who are in an approved grace period may vote at chapter meetings and participate in chapter events, activities, and projects.
