Laura Behr, in her fifth year as the Head Coach of the Orange Coast Women’s rowing program, is extremely excited to get this strong OCC team pumped for the new seaon in the new boathouse! The 2009-10 season will be a year of growth and establishment of success for Coast Women Rowers. Laura looks forward to unifying the team by stressing the importance of teamwork both on and off the water.
Laura made Southern California her home seven years ago, where she started as an Exercise Physiologist at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista. She has taken the skills learned at the training center and expanded them through her coaching and teaching at UC San Diego which carried on to Coast. Quite accomplished, she coached the novice women rowers, taught Wellness classes, and personally trained faculty, staff, and students at UCSD. As novice coach at UCSD, she took four boats to the medals stand her first two years of coaching at the collegiate level in the WIRA regatta.
Behr, who is a Hoosier, grew up in South Bend, IN. She graduated from Purdue University with a BA in Kinesiology and minor in Physical Therapy. At Purdue, Laura was a four-year rower and officer for the team. She continued on at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse where she received a MS for her studies in Exercise Physiology and Cardiac Rehabilitation. Coach Behr maintains her passion by rowing in her free time and frequently enjoys cycling the beautiful trails of Southern California.
