PARENTS NIGHT OCT. 22
ORANGE COAST COLLEGE MEN’S CREW
To: Parents of oarsmen and coxswains:
Greetings and welcome
to Coast Crew! By now, your sons
(and a few daughters) have made a serious commitment to a sport that may be
brand new to you: College Rowing.
For that reason,
Matthew Chapman, the novice coach, Robi Dalyrimple, the rigger and I thought it
would be a good idea to host you for a short evening of coffee, soft drinks and
a little cake – and bring you up to speed on this unique sport.
The evening event will
be THURSDAY, 22 OCTOBER, 7 pm at the College Boathouse, 1801 W. Pacific Coast
Hwy, Newport Beach. You may park
in the parking lot there (no gate), or if that is full, anywhere along the Coast
Hwy. We will show you some video
of your sons rowing, talk a little about the sport itself and the College’s
involvement (Orange Coast College is the only community college in the country
with Crew) as well as give you a chance to try out your skill on an ergometer! (we can give you a fake score to take
home with you…).
So, some of you may be
far away and unable to join us, but we invite you all the same. To those close by, we look
forward to making your acquaintance and helping you to learn about this
wonderful sport of College Crew.
You don’t need to rsvp; just come and join us. It will be a very casual evening inside the Boathouse.
To help you understand
in advance a little of what is expected of your sons and daughters, I am
enclosing the opening statement to the Crew, which gave them a fairly clear
picture of our expectations. It is
enclosed.
Yours very truly,
David A. Grant
Head Rowing Coach
