LAIRD HAYES
Head Coach

A Former Princeton University athlete and a graduate of UCLA's doctoral program, Laird Hayes became head coach of the Orange Coast College men's soccer program in 1987 and has been a member of the OCC faculty since 1976.

During his tenure, the Pirates have won seven Orange Empire Conference championships and two state titles. He's been named the OEC's Coach of the Year and has also been elected the California Community College Coach of the Year. With the completion of the 2008 season, the Pirates' record is 248-155-86, a .744 winning percentage.

In addition to his coaching duties, Laird has been a side judge for the National Football League since 1995. Laird has officiated Super Bowls XXXVI in 2002, Super Bowls XXXVIII in 2004 and the 2006 Pro Bowl.

Laird is also the director of the Quarterback and Receiver Camp, founded in 1965. The camp teaches fundamentals for youth players and high school players at six summer camps held in California, New Jersey, Arkansas, Michigan and Georgia.

GLENN STRACHAN
Head Trainer

Bringing a relentless work ethic and an abundance of knowledge to the Pirates is Glenn Strachan.

Glenn played for OCC in the early days of the program and continued on at Cal State Dominguez Hills for a distinguished career, followed by a professional stint as well.

In addition to his tenure here at Coast, Glenn also serves as the director of the reknowned Wolfpack Soccer Club in Fountain Valley.

"Glenn brings a wealth of experience to our program -- his coaching acumen and insight are incredible," head coach Laird Hayes said. "What he sees on the field and his ability to change his coaching style to the environment is simply amazing.

"Coach Strachan training sessions are well organized with every minute of training having a purpose."

BRANDON FUTAGAKI
Assistant Trainer

"Coach Futagaki brings a fresh prospective and energy that compliments Coach Strachan's coaching and helps organize and run our training," according to Coach Hayes. "Brandon's enthusiasm is infectious and the players respect his knowledge of the game."

When not at Coast, Futagaki is the assistant  soccer coach at Edison High School as well as a teacher and peer advisor for the tobacco Free Communities Project at Valley Vista High School.

After earning his AA degree at OCC, Futagaki moved on to Long Beach State, where he picked up his BA in communication studies. From there, he received his Master's Degree in Education from National University.

When he's not on the soccer field, you'll find Brandon snowboarding during the winter and bodyboarding during the summer.
