Dance Faculty Biographies

Ramaa Bharadvaj, the Artistic Director of Angahara Ensemble is an internationally renowned dancer, teacher, and choreographer.  She won the distinction of being listed by the Orange County Register as "One of the Most Memorable World Dance Performers" of 1992 and 1997.  She was awarded the "Lester Horton Dance Award" for Outstanding Achievement in staging Traditional Dance; was awarded the title of "Natya Kala Bhushani" in India, for her contributions to Indian Dance.  She has completed extended residencies at L.A. County High School for the Arts, Scripps College, and Loyola Marymount University.  She is the recipient of the Multi Cultural Grant from the California Arts Council from 1995 to 2001.  Recently she was invited by the Society for Dance History Scholars to present a paper at their International Conference.  Ramaa often performs with  her daughter and student Swetha Bharadvaj who has been hailed as an outstanding dancer by critics in India, the U.S., and Canada.  Swetha is the youngest dancer to receive the title of Nritya Kishori in India in recognition of her prodigious dancing skills.
