"ASK A LIBRARIAN" SERVICE FAQ

Who may use this service?

The "Ask a Librarian" e-mail service is primarily for Orange Coast College students, faculty, and staff. These questions get priority. If you are a community member in the OCC district, we will respond to questions as time permits. Community members may be referred to another local library or online service, as needed.

What kinds of questions may be asked?

We will answer the following types of questions through e-mail:

  • Which resources to use for an assignment
  • How to begin your research
  • Suggested search strategies
  • How to locate factual information
  • How to use the OCC Library
  • Questions about the policies or services at the OCC library

Remember that the librarian cannot do your research for you, but can suggest search strategies and sources.

Who answers the questions asked through the "Ask a Librarian" service?

All questions are answered by reference librarians at OCC.

When will I receive a response?

Questions will be answered as quickly as possible. A response should be received within 24 hours, not including weekends and holidays. If your question is urgent, you can call the Reference Desk during library open hours at (714) 432-5900.
