Spring 2010 Activities Calendar
Announcing our February activities. . .
1. Welcome Back Luncheon – The International Center will be hosting “Welcome Come Back Luncheon” to all new and continuing students. The luncheon will be on Friday, February 19, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Please stop by our office to meet other students and our friendly staff. There will be free refreshments and food. So, stop by, take a look around or just to say “Hi!”
2. Optional Practical Training Workshop (OPT) – The International Center has scheduled a few OPT workshops throughout the semester. The February workshop is scheduled for Thursday, February 25, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Please sign up for the workshop at the International Center. Additional dates will be announced in the newsletter.
3. International/Cultural Lounge – Starting Monday, February 22, The International Center would like to invite you to stop by the International/Cultural Lounge in Watson Hall Room #240 (Orientation Room) to learn about the services provided by the International Center and around campus, meet other international students, or chat with our friendly staff. Starting this semester we will feature a “Student of the Month” who will be doing presentation about their culture and their home country. Announcement of the student and date of the presentation will be determined and announce to you soon. Our weekly “Meet and Greet” hours will be every:
Monday from 9:00 am – 11:00 am
Tuesday from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Wednesday from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
So, stop by the lounge and meet other OCC students and have a place to study and read.
4. Telling Luncheon with Dr. Karimi. On Tuesday, February 23, at 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. International Center will be resuming its luncheon with Dr. Karimi for the spring semester. We received such good feedbacks and responses from last semester that we are continuing our monthly lunch sessions with Dr. Karimi. Come have lunch and discuss issues that are important to you and learn from the discussions. Dr. Karimi was a former international student. She appreciates and understands the challenges that you might face when adjusting to a new culture. The International Center will provide lunch for this gathering. Due to space limitations, this gathering is open to 20 international students. You must sign up for this event at the International Center.
5. Free Movie at the Metro Pointe - The International Center has planned a movie night at Metro Pointe for Friday, February 26, at 5:30 pm. Come and join your fellow international students from OCC and make new friends. The International Center is sponsoring the tickets for this fun event. This is a great opportunity for you to enjoy a great movie for FREE. This event is open to the first 15 international students who sign up.
6. Scholarship Information -- The deadline to apply for OCC scholarship is February 26, 2010. Please visit the Scholarship Office’s website at http://www.orangecoastcollege.edu/student_services/scholarship_office/ to see eligibility requirements as well as the application process.
7. Second 8-Week Courses – Course are still available for second 8-week. You can register for the second 8-week courses through MyOCC. If you are still looking to add more units, please logon to MyOCC to check for courses availability and register for your courses. Second 8-week will start on 04/05/2010 - 05/30/2010.
