The 2009/2010 Scholarships Application Window is now open. The deadline for application submittal is
Midnight, Friday, February 26, 2010.

We will not be accepting any applications in person.
This is completely an on-line process.

Please read ALL of the following instructions COMPLETELY before you begin the application process.

The application is available on PC computer systems only. It is not compatible with MAC computers. You may use the Computer Center if you do not have a PC.

Online Scholarship Instructions

1. To begin the process of filling out a scholarship application, please click the link below: Please do this only after you have read all of the following instructions.

2. There are six sections to completing your scholarship application. Please make sure you fill out all six sections. If at any point you need to stop the application process click the “Save and Exit” button that appears at the bottom of each section. Your work will be saved and you can go back to it later. You do not need to do all six sections at one time. The six sections are:

  • Personal Information
  • Open Questionnaire
  • Academic Information
  • Financial Information
  • Free Form Essay Questions
  • Attach Documents

3.  The following forms must be uploaded into your application in the "Attach Documents" section.

a.  Personal Essay --REQUIRED. Must be typed as a Word document. Please limit your essay to two pages, double spaced using 12 pt font. The essay should include any additional information you feel will help us to know you better. This information may include educational and personal goals, life history, significant obstacles you have overcome, personal and financial needs that are unique to you, and any special circumstances that have had a significant impact on your earlier academic performance. Emphasize events that have negatively or positively affected your cumulative grade point average.

b.  2 Scholarship Recommendation Form. This form will need to be scanned and uploaded into the “Attached Documents” section of the application. Scholarship Recommendation Form due midnight Friday 2/26/2010.

i. Print out the form and give it the person who will be completing this recommendation, i.e. Instructors, Counselors, Campus Supervisors, Deans, etc. Have them fill it out and return it to you. You will need to scan and upload the forms into the “Attach Documents” section of your scholarship application. There are scanners available in the Computer Center for your use.

ii. The person recommending you may fill out the form online and e-mail it directly to the Scholarship Office and we will upload it into your file. Please keep a copy of your Recommendation Forms. The Scholarship Office will not be able to provide a copy for you.

c. Other Colleges Transcript(s) (Not OCC). If you are applying for a “transfer” scholarship and you have listed that you’ve attended and completed units from other college(s) to meet your transfer requirements. It is required that we see the other college(s) transcript(s). It is your responsibility to make sure the Counseling File Room located on the 3rd Floor of Watson Hall has a copy of the evaluated transcript of each college that you have attended on file. There is no need for you to upload these documents into the system. The Scholarship Office will upload them into your application.

d. OCC Transcript. The Scholarship Office will automatically upload it into your application.

CRITERIA FOR APPLICATION


The general scholarship application is for all students in all disciplines.

Students who are enrolled in certificate programs in Technology, Consumer & Health Sciences or Visual & Performing Arts may also use the online scholarship application.

For those students enrolled in Certificate Programs, GPA requirements are a cumulative 3.0 and above with a few exceptions. Please read the Instructions completely for specific GPA requirements in each area.

Fine Arts and Photography majors may also apply and submit artwork for review. Please read the instructions for details.

General Scholarship for Continuing students should be:
  1. returning to OCC fall of 2010
  2. completed at least 12 units with a letter grade at OCC by the end of the fall 2009. 
  3. cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better
  4. completing a minimum of six (6) units during the spring semester 2010 with at least a 3.0 semester GPA

General Scholarship forTransfer students should:

  1. be transferring to a four-year institution in the fall 2010 or to a program not offered at OCC where a certificate or degree can be received. If you aren't sure you will be transferring, check with an OCC Counselor
  2. have completed 42 units or more by the end of the fall 2009, with at least 24 units of those units completed at OCC
  3. have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better
  4. complete a minimum of six (6) units during the spring semester 2010 with at least a 3.0 semester GPA
  5. Have not previously applied as a "Transfer" student
