We had a great turnout for our Holiday Luncheon on December 5th. Pete the Pirate was there to welcome our guests, "Mr. OCC" Doug Bennett led us down Memory Lane with some great OCC trivia questions, and a trio of talented students entertained us with Broadway songs. Our Spring Luncheon is scheduled for May 1, 2009. It's a great opportunity to see friends and colleagues who have retired from OCC. If you haven't been receiving your newsletters or invitations lately, please make sure we have your current address. You may call 714-432-5010 or email the information to emeritus@occ.cccd.edu.
The Emeritus Institute Scholarship was awarded last May during the Honors Night ceremony to Oriana McGee, a continuing student at Orange Coast College who hopes to graduate from medical school in 2015. In addition to maintaining an impressive G.PA., she devotes many hours to volunteer work here in the community. Our congratulations to this hard-working student! The Emeritus Institute will be offering another scholarship in 2009 to a deserving student. If you wish to contribute to our scholarship fund, please contact Doug Bennett in the OCC Foundation office at 714-432-5126.
Senior Day 2009 was a great success! Our thanks to the many Emeriti who have worked at booths, buses, and barbeques every spring. Your efforts make a difference, and help us showcase our splendid campus to thousands of high school students. Get a sneak peek at future students--volunteer to help out with all of the activities from 10:00 to 2:00. We'll be announcing the date for Senior Day 2010 soon. For more information on how you can help, call Mary Roda at 714-432-5726.
The next meeting of the Archives Committee is May 14, 2009 from 2-4 p.m. in the Archives Room, 2nd floor of the Library. New members always welcome!
