WELCOME to Orange Slices — a series written by Jim Carnett, who served as Orange Coast College's Community Relations Director for 37 years from 1971 to 2008. Jim penned the 140 essays called "Orange Slices" during the last five years of his career.
"The Slices have been a labor of love for me," Jim wrote in his final article. He chronicled the college’s history and many of Coast’s remarkable and significant characters including the college founders and inaugural administrators as well as people who worked behind the scenes.
The 400,000 words that make up Jim’s farewell gift to Orange Coast College "help to tell the college's extraordinary story," he said. "Hopefully, they'll become a valuable fixture in Orange Coast College's archives."
Insightful and often humorous, "Orange Slices" complements the 300-page history of the college, "Tumbleweeds to Roses," which was produced in 1965 by 18 college faculty and staff as a retirement gift for OCC's first president, Dr. Basil Peterson.
Both "Orange Slices" and "Tumbleweeds to Roses" are accessible on the Orange Coast College website. Print versions are available in the college library.
