Transfer Courses

All courses numbered 100 or higher are transferable to the California State Universities (CSU). Courses that are transferable to the University of California are designated 'UC.' Some of these courses have limits on the amount of credit that is granted. See the UC Transferable Course List available in the Counseling Center or Transfer Center for these limitations. Computer Information Systems A090- Beg Comptr Kyboarding 1 (1.5)
The student will develop basic keyboarding skills on a computer keyboard using correct stroking techniques on letter, number, and symbol keys. Emphasis on developing accuracy and speed. No credit will be given to students who can already type 30 words per minute. This course may also be offered online. Offered on a pass-no pass basis only.

Computer Information Systems A091- Keyboard Speed & Accuracy (1.5)
Development of keyboarding skill on a microcomputer for students who know how to type by touch. Speed and accuracy development using a variety of learning aids and software for diagnostic, prescriptive drills. May be taken concurrently with another typing course if desired. Offered on a pass-no pass basis only. This course may be taken two times. PREREQUISITE: Computer Information Systems A090.

Computer Information Systems A092- Beg Computer Keyboarding 2 (1.5)
Keyboarding on the computer for students who can type by touch control and know alphabetic, numeric, and symbolic keys presented in Computer Information Systems A090. Emphasis on speed and accuracy on straight copy material, introduction to MS Word, formatting of memos, personal letters, business letters, one-page reports, and simple tables. This course may also be offered online. Offered on a pass-no pass basis only. PREREQUISITE: Computer Information Systems A090.

Computer Information Systems A100- Intro Cmptr Applicat (3)
Introductory computer course for MS Windows and applications. Students learn about the computer operating system and software applications for word processing, spreadsheets, multimedia presentations, Internet, and social networking tools. Provides preparation for students seeking Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification. This course may also be offered online. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

Computer Information Systems A106- PC Concepts: Linux+ Cert Prep (4)
This course provides an overview of the Linux operating system through the basic administration level. The student will be introduced to the configuration of Linux software and hardware, User and Group creation and management, process management, Linux rights and security. Computer Information Systems A107- MS Windows (1)
Develops skills in using the Microsoft Windows operating system. Topics include configuring the desktop to meet individual needs and installing and using other software and hardware designed for MS Windows. Students will be taught the concepts of file and folder management and the use of control panel. Same as Business A107. Students receiving credit for Computer Information Systems A107 may not receive credit for Business A107. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. Transfer Credit: CSU.

Computer Information Systems A109- Introduction to Linux (2)
This course teaches students the basic Linux OS and Operating System commands. These include file system navigation, Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) such as Gnome and KDE, file permissions, the Linux text editors, command shells, basic network commands and introduces basic Linux applications. Introduces the hardware and operating system concepts, repair, and troubleshooting of a personal computer. Provides preparation for students seeking A+ certification. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis.

Computer Information Systems A111- Intro Computer Info Sys (3)
Introductory course in the applications of information systems in business. Students will learn about Information Systems, hardware and software components, networks, ethics and security issues, ecommerce, and Web page design. Use of spreadsheet and database management software to create computer-based solutions to business problems. Meets the lower division computer requirement for business majors at some CSU and UC campuses. This course may also be offered online. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

Provides the student with the educational applications of technology, including multimedia, Internet skills, graphics, research, video, audio, presentation and computer skills, basic networking processes, downloads, software resources, basic troubleshooting skills, digital cameras, scanners, and basic hardware and software evaluations. Computer Information Systems A117- Today's Computer Tools (2)
Instruction and practice in using current and upcoming technology to succeed as a student. Focus on software and hardware solutions for organizing and completing coursework, studying, note-taking, giving in-class presentations, and collaborating with other students. Introduction to online classes and learning resources such as podcasts and blogs. This course may also be offered online. This course may be taken three times. Transfer Credit: CSU.

Computer Information Systems A123- Intro Web Page Design (2)
This course will provide a practical understanding of the HTML and XHTML tags to design a web page. Notepad and other software tools will be used to teach text formatting commands, background formatting, hyperlinks, E-mail links, tables, forms, image maps, and frames. Students will also learn to insert various types of images, videos, and sound files into a web page. This course may also be offered online. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. Computer Information Systems A128- Intro to Dreamweaver (2)
Students will use the Dreamweaver program to effectively create, manage and maintain web sites. Students will work in an environment that integrates visual and code editing tools. Computer Information Systems A129- CSS for Web Pages (2)
This course covers creating and using Cascading Style Sheets for formatting Web pages. Intended for students who know how to create web pages using HTML and XHTML. This course may also be offered online. ADVISORY: Computer Information Systems A123. Transfer Credit: CSU.

Computer Information Systems A131- Microsoft Word 1 (2)
Designed to improve document processing skills using Microsoft Word. Topics cover preparing documents, formatting and managing documents, and enhancing documents. Prepares students with the skills required to pass the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certification exam. This course may also be offered online. Computer Information Systems A132- Bus Multimedia/Graphics (2)
The student will use Adobe Studio MX and Adobe PhotoShop to create, modify, implement and manage Web pages and sites that utilize multimedia interactivity and graphics for personal, business and educational use. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. Transfer Credit: CSU.

Demonstrates how proven, effective presentation techniques can blend with the technology of computer-generated graphics to create dynamic, colorful, and exciting multimedia presentations. The basics of communicating by e-mail. Students will learn how to send instant messages. Other topics include the use of the calendar and management of contacts, tasks, and appointments. Computer Information Systems A141- Flash Programming (3)
Introduces students to the fundamental concepts of the Adobe Flash environment and ActionScript programming. Topics include animation techniques, vector graphics, use of sound, and scripting fundamentals. Upon completion of the course students will be able to create tutorials and design games delivered on CD ROM and Web technologies. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. Personal qualities and office skills required of an office assistant in a high tech, multicultural labor force. For students who already know how to create Web pages using XHTML, this course introduces the fundamentals of JavaScript, a scripting language used to create interactive Web pages. Covers the terminology, technology and software used to administer a Microsoft SQL Server database. Covers the terminology, technology and software used to design a Microsoft SQL Server database. An introduction to Voice over IP (VoIP).Topics include VoIP architecture, components and functionality. The course focuses on advanced installation, configuration, and troubleshooting routers. Student will be introduced to routing protocols using Juniper Networks routing platforms. This course provides students with advanced knowledge and skills necessary to use routers to meet their networks´ requirements. Challenges students to apply network concepts learned in previous courses to a case-study based problem in Small Office / Home Office environments. The course provides a comprehensive introduction to information storage technology which enables students to make more informed decisions in an increasingly complex IT environment. Computer Information Systems A292- Dir Study (2)
A student may take advanced coursework in a field of study, after having completed the introductory courses. In unusual cases, students may enroll in directed studies without completing the pertinent beginning courses. Those students also must have written approval of the instructor, Division Dean and the Dean of Instruction.
