Transfer Courses

All courses numbered 100 or higher are transferable to the California State Universities (CSU). Courses that are transferable to the University of California are designated 'UC.' Some of these courses have limits on the amount of credit that is granted. See the UC Transferable Course List available in the Counseling Center or Transfer Center for these limitations. Courses that are non-credit or not AA degree applicable are designated with the letter 'N' preceding the course number. Identification of courses that have been accepted into the California Articulation Number (CAN) system appears after the course title.

THEATRE ARTS

Theater Arts A100- Intro to Theatre (3)
An introductory lecture course which explores the process of creating theatre today, including the contributions of the playwright, actor, director and designer. Plays of varying genres will be viewed and discussed. Students will attend and review two OCC-produced plays. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

Theater Arts A101- Hist & Lit of Theatre (3)
Follows the development of Western theatre from the Ancient Greeks to today. Important plays from each era will be viewed and discussed. The contributions of culture, playwright, actor, director and designer on the theatre of each era will be explored. Students will attend and review one OCC theatre production. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

Theater Arts A104- Improvisation (3)
The student will rehearse and perform individual and group improvisational scenes and exercises. The goal of the course is to help performers work with ease in front of an audience or camera. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis.This course may be taken two times. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

Theater Arts A105- Drama And Acting (3)
An introduction to acting and dramatic literature. Includes analysis of plays and dramatic structure, rehearsal techniques and performance of scenes and monologues. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

Theater Arts A106- Acting Fundamentals (3)
An introduction to acting. Units of study will include interaction, characterization, and emotion. Students are expected to participate in class exercises, prepare memorized scenes, and critique the acting techniques employed in two dramatic productions outside of class. Required for theatre arts majors. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

Theater Arts A107- Acting 2 Fundamentals (3)
A continuation of the acting craft begun in Theatre Arts A106. Students will focus greater attention to characterization, monologue, scene study, and vocal technique. Three hours lecture, one hour studio.

Theater Arts A108- Comedy Workshop (3)
Introductory course exploring the unique demands associated with performing comedy scenes, monologues, skits, improvisations, and stand-up. Great comedians and comic literature will be studied. Students will participate in at least one comedy performance for an audience. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. Three hours lecture, one hour non-lecture.

Theater Arts A109- Musical Theatre Wrkshop (3)
Students will prepare, rehearse, and perform scenes, monologues, dances, and songs from musical comedy, musical drama, musical revues, operetta, and opera. Areas of concentration and historic movements in musical theatre will be discussed. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. This course may be taken two times. Two hours lecture, two hours non-lecture.

Theater Arts A110- Theatre Lab (2)
Technical theatre and general theatre process under faculty supervision. This course may be taken four times.

Theater Arts A115- Act for Camera & Stage (3)
Translation of stage acting into film and television acting. Focus on artistic and practical consideration of moving from one medium of expression to another. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. PREREQUISITE: Theatre Arts 106

Theater Arts A141- OCC Theatre Repertory (1-3)
Students will plan and produce several plays. All aspects of play production including directing, acting, design, publicity, technical production and house management will be practiced. This course extends and enriches experience beyond previous beginning acting and technical courses. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. This course may be taken four times. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

Theater Arts A144- Summer Theatre Festival (4)
Students participate in the pre-production, planning, audition, rehearsal, and performance of a theatrical production or productions in repertory. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. This course may be taken four times. Four hours lecture, sixteen hours laboratory.

Theater Arts A145- Touring Production (3)
Touring show to local high schools and other organizations. Roles are assigned by audition. This course may be taken two times.

Theater Arts A165- Stagecraft Lab (1)
Introduction to stage craft activities including scenery construction, set painting, light rigging, stage props and theatre operations. This course may be taken four times. One hour lecture, two hours non-lecture.

Theater Arts A170- Stage Crew Activity (1)
The student will help produce an OCC stage production. One or more elements of technical theatre will be explored including scenic and prop construction, scene painting, or stage lighting. Strongly recommended for theatre majors. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. This course may be taken four times. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

Theater Arts A171- Play Production (2)
Participation in plays presented to the community. Students will participate in one or more areas including technical production, stage management, acting or house management. Assignments will be given upon enrollment. Actors must pass auditions. Strongly recommended for theatre majors. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. This course may be taken four times. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

Theater Arts A172- Elizabethan Wrkshp/Prod (3)
Study and participation in productions of plays from or influenced by the Elizabethan era. Students will explore social and moral attitudes and customs of the period. Students may concentrate on one or more of the following areas: acting, stage management, house management or technical work. All actors must pass auditions. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. This course may be taken four times. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

Theater Arts A173- Classic Amer Play Prod (2)
Play production of classic American plays from before 1965. Students will participate in one or more areas: acting, management, design, and technical assignments. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. This course may be taken four times.

Theater Arts A174- Child Theat Wrksp/Prod (2)
Chidren's theatre production involving the student in one or more areas: acting, theatre management, design, and technical production assignments. This course may be taken four times.

Theater Arts A175- Stage Scenery (3)
An in-depth study of all the diverse theatre crafts such as scenery construction, scene painting, and properties, and a survey study of theatre design. The historical development and major trends of stagecraft will be studied. Students will prepare a practical project consisting of a scene design or scale model. Required for students planning to transfer to CSU Long Beach and Fullerton. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. This course may be taken two times. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

Theater Arts A176- Stage Lighting (3)
An introductory course in stage lighting including basic electronics, color and equipment.

Theater Arts A177- Make-Up (3)
A practical introduction to the techniques of applying theatrical and film make-up. Recommended for students of drama interested in gaining a better understanding of the proper uses of theatrical make-up. This course may be taken four times. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

Theater Arts A178- Costume Crafts (3)
An introduction to costuming techniques for the theatre and entertainment industry. Topics include basic costume construction and alteration techniques, costume craft tools and materials, mask making and an introduction to costume design methods. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

Theater Arts A188- Body Movement (3)
Instruction in the use of the body as an expressive instrument in performance, the use of strength, flexibility, relaxation, control, and the relationship of the body to the creative project are concepts which are discussed. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. Three hours lecture, one hour studio.

Theater Arts A189- Stage Combat (2)
Fundamentals of stage combat emphasizing such weapons as quarterstaff, foil, epee, sabre, broadsword, rapier, and dagger. Such stunt techniques as fist fighting and falls are included. Strongly recommended for acting majors and theatre arts teachers. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. Two hours lecture, two hours studio.

Theater Arts A200- Voice & Articulation (3)
This course explores vocal techniques for actors including warm-up techniques, phonetics, projection, articulation and the use of regional accents. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

Theater Arts A206- Acting 3-Scene Study (3)
Advanced techniques based on the study, analysis, rehearsal, and performance of dramatic scenes. Areas of concentration include projection and articulation, goal discovery and setting, and the use of imagery and connection. Three hours lecture, one hour studio.

Theater Arts A207- Acting 4-Classicl Style (3)
Advanced acting techniques with particular emphasis on stage diction. Units of study include phonetics, voice, projection, vocal quality, dialects, and the application of vocal techniques to dramatic literature. Required of theatre arts majors. Three hours lecture, one hour studio.

Theater Arts A215- Rehearsal & Performance (2)
A course designed to enrich and extend the basic technical theatre and acting background established in the beginning stagecraft and acting classes. Actual participation in college productions in all aspects. Area of participation is selected by the student to satisfy individual interests. One hour lecture, three hours studio.

Theater Arts A271- Elements of Stage Dsgn (3)
An intense study of stage design and scene painting techniques going far beyond the introductory stage.

Theater Arts A275- Directing (3)
Basic principles, procedures, and problems in a play production. This course may be taken four times.

Theater Arts A276- Performing Arts Mgmt (2)
Economic and administrative aspects of American theatre and performing arts applied to repertory, community, and educational organizations. Administrative assignments related to stage productions, as well as other performances. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. Four hours.
