ORANGE - The Orange Coast College men's soccer team managed to cram about a month's worth of goals into a 90-minute game on Tuesday, cruising past host Santiago Canyon, 5-1, on Tuesday in Orange Empire Conference action.
Mired in a 15-game stretch where they failed to score more than two goals in any one game, the Pirates (7-6-4, 3-3-3 in conference) took advantage of a struggling Hawks' squad and found their scoring touch in a big way.
Juan Meza scored the game's first two goals -- one on a 40-yard laser that snuck under the crossbar and the other on a penalty kick -- giving OCC a 2-0 halftime lead.
Amir Kazemi made it 3-0 when he took a pass from goalkeeper Alex Roberts and hit another long-bomb goal past Hawks' keeper Roberto Olmedo.
After SCC's Dustin Daley made it 3-1 in the 60th minute, the Pirates closed out the scoring with a penalty kick goal by Matt Schirmer and a tally by Matt Jimenez off an assist by Jose Solis.
Alex Roberts and Eric Torres combined for five saves for the Pirates, who play at Cypress on Friday, beginning at 3 p.m.
