IRVINE - The Orange Coast College men's soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak to seven straight games with a 1-1 tie against host Irvine Valley on Tuesday in Orange Empire Conference action. The tie may have cost IVC a tie atop the Orange Empire Conference standings. The Lasers went into the contest tied with Santa Ana for first place in conference with 25 points apiece. Santa Ana’s score against Santiago Canyon from Tuesday was not yet available. Irvine Valley ran into a tough Orange Coast team. The tie was the Pirates’ seventh straight positive result since losing to Irvine Valley, 3-1, on Oct. 6. Orange Coast, which is in third place in the conference standings, has three wins and four ties in its last seven matches. The Pirates were the dominant team early on in the game, continually pushing into Irvine Valley’s end. They had four free kicks and two corner kicks in the opening 25 minutes. Another free kick, in the 29th minute, resulted in the team’s goal. On a shot from about 25 yards out, Dave Barnett placed a hard, low grounder left of the Irvine Valley wall and into the left corner of the goal. Irvine Valley goalie Jesus Olivera tried to get a hand on it, but his diving attempt fell short. Juan Meza had a chance to score for OCC in the 37th minute, but Olivera came out and made a sliding save to knock the ball out of harms way. The Lasers turned up their play in the second half. IVC scored just two minutes into the half. Sina Alipour sent a corner kick into the box from the left side. Taylor Campbell was there to chest the ball in past OCC goalie Alex Roberts. It was Campbell’s second straight game with a goal.
