Several Pirates earn all-conference honors

COSTA MESA - Following their 7-3 regular season, several members of the Orange Coast College football team earned All-Mission Conference honors, as voted on by the conference coaches.
Special teams standout Nathan Barnett (right) earned first-team honors as the Pirates' kick returner. Barnett averaged 32.8 yards per return for Coast, including two touchdowns.
On defense, five Pirates - Shaun Mohler, Ryan Wolfe, Winter Welz, Chris Assily and C.J. Santiago - earned first-team recognition.
Mohler (left), a unanimous selection at outside linebacker, led the Pirates with 99 tackles (46 solo), 15.5 tackles for a loss and a conference-best three forced fumbles. He also racked up 3.5 sacks, one fumble recovery and one safety for the Pirates.
Wolfe (right) picked up 53 tackles (22 solo), 12.5 tackles for a loss and five sacks, fifth-best among Mission Conference defenders.
Welz (left) accounted for 50 tackles (20 solo) with six tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble and a 36-yard fumble recovery and return for a touchdown.
Assily (right) was second on the team with 56 tackles (35 solo) with four interceptions, which tied him with several players for tops in the OEC.
Santiago (below) helped the Pirates control field position with his booming punts. He averaged a conference-best 42.4 yards per attempt, including two touchbacks and six that stayed inside the opponent's 20-yard line.
Second-team honors went to guard Lawaia Naihe and wide receiver Damola Adeniji (29 receptions, 376 yards, six touchdowns) on offense. On defense, tackle Lamu Taafua (32 tackles, 13 solo, six tackles for loss, three sacks), safety Benjamin Soza (54 tackles, 32 solo, four interceptions, two fumble recoveries) and cornerback Chris Holmesly (37 tackles, 26 solo, four interceptions, two forced fumbles, three blocked punts) also earned second-team honors.
