Pirates split two in weekend action

COSTA MESA - The Orange Coast College men's basketball team continued its nonconference action this past weekend, topping Miramar at home 85-69 before falling on the road against San Diego City, 66-62, on Saturday.
In the win over Miramar (0-8), OCC forward Cameron Wise made the most of his shot selection, scoring a team-high 16 points on 6-of-6 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 shooting from the free-throw line.
Steven Cornett added 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Miguel Gonzalez hit three 3-pointers on his way to 11 points.
Trailing 35-29 at the half, the Pirates (5-4 overall) came to life in the second half, outscoring Miramar 56-34 the rest of the way.
In the loss to San Diego City (4-6), Cornett led all scorers with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Shaun Engle added 11 points, however, no other Pirate player was able to reach double figures.
OCC (5-4) returns to action on Friday in the L.A. Southwest Intensity Classic tournament against Moorpark, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
