COSTA MESA - The Orange Coast College women's basketball team still had some leftover offensive fireworks following its New Year's break and opened Orange Empire Conference play with a 100-40 win over visiting Golden West on Wednesday.
Devin Hundley led the Pirates (15-3 overall, 1-0 in OEC) with 21 points and nine rebounds, six on the offensive side. Courtney Ford added 17 points, nine rebounds, five assists and six steals, while Brittany Taylor (12 points, five rebouds, four steals), Katie Kissee (10 points) and Robin Smith (10 points) each reached double figures.
Siutiti Takai had 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Rustlers (2-13, 0-1).
OCC jumped out to an 18-0 lead before a Takai jumper ended the Rustler drought 6:43 into the game. The Pirates, meanwhile, found their offensive groove early on and carried a 56-16 lead into the second half, where they cruised from there.
The Pirates forced 35 GWC turnovers, while committing just five themselves.
Offensively, OCC kept the ball moving all over the court as 10 different players had two or more assists with Rachael Maulit's seven leading the way.
The Pirates will return to action on Friday when they host Cypress, beginning at 7:30 p.m., following the men's 5:30 p.m. matchup with the Chargers.
