No. 8 Pirates sting No. 12 Hornets, 74-70
Thursday, January 11, 2007

FULLERTON - The Fullerton Hornets managed to keep the Orange Coast College women's basketball team 11 points under its state-best season scoring average, but it still wasn't enough.

Four OCC players hit double figures as the Pirates, ranked eighth in the state, overcame a four-point halftime deficit to top the 12th ranked Hornets on the road, 74-70, on Wednesday night.

Brittany Taylor (pictured left) led the offense with 14 points, while three other Pirates -- Courtney Ford, Lindsay Allen and Rachael Maulit -- each added 12.

Ford led all rebounders with 10, while Maulit sparked the offense with six assists and six steals.

After being held to just 30 first-half points -- the lost first-half total in 16 games and second-lowest of the season -- the Pirates turned up the defense and in turn, their offense followed close behind.

Christina Figueroa led the Hornets (17-5, 2-1) with 15 ponts and 10 rebounds, while Vao Faoa added 13 points and five assists.

OCC will return to action on Friday at Irvine Valley, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
