FULLERTON - Thanks to some hot shooting from the outside and some hard work down low, the Orange Coast College men's basketball team improved to 2-0 in the Orange Empire Conference with an 81-59 win over the host Fullerton Hornets on Wednesday night.
The Pirates (11-9, 2-0 in the OEC) hit 12-of-21 from 3-point range (57.1 percent), while topping the 50-percent mark from the field for the game (31-of-61).
The hottest from the outside was Josh Poitevin, who went 5-of-9 from downtown, en route to scoring 17 points. The trio of Miguel Gonzalez, Mario Caetano and Brian Molina combined to go 6-of-8 from beyond the arc for 21 total points.
In the post, Steven Cornett overcame a sore shoulder to score 24 points and grab seven rebounds for OCC.
Fullerton (9-13, 0-3) was led by Rodrick Johnson, who scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Calise Patterson added 14 points, while Bryan LeDuc chipped in 11 points and five blocks.
OCC will return to action on Friday at Irvine Valley, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
