No. 8 Pirates zap Lasers 73-49

IRVINE - The Orange Coast College women's basketball team improved to 18-3 overall, 4-0 in the Orange Empire Conference with a 73-49 win over Irvine Valley on Friday night.
OEC scoring leader Courtney Ford (pictured right) led all scorers with 23 points, seven rebounds and four steals for the Pirates, ranked eighth in the state. Christina Calcagno added nine points and six rebounds, while former IVC guard Robin Smith added eight points, three assists and two steals.
Jenna Schonfeld led the Lasers (9-9, 1-3) with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Emily Luckeroth added 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Thanks to their trademark pressure defense, the Pirates kept a close eye on IVC's leading scorer Danyelle Swanson (14.8 points per game, 17.8 in OEC), holding the standout guard to just five points, while forcing her into seven turnovers.
The Pirates will return to action on Wednesday at home against Santa Ana, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
