Coast softballers drop opener to San Diego City
Monday, January 29, 2007

SAN DIEGO - The Orange Coast College softball team opened the 2007 season with a 6-0 loss to host San Diego City on Saturday.

Defensive miscues proved costly for the visiting Pirates as several miscues led to three unearned runs, hampering the performance of starting pitcher Chelsea Evers. The freshman righthander allowed just three hits over six innings with three strikeouts.

"Chelsea pitched a great game for us, but unfortunately, we could give her much help out there," OCC head coach Ruby Rojas said.

SD City starter Natalie Garnett got better as the game rolled along. She went the distance, allowing just two hits, retiring the final 12 batters she faced.

Janae Rivera and Paulina Rodriguez each had singles for OCC, but Garnett kept the rest of the Pirate hitters at bay the rest of the way.

The Pirates return to action on Friday through Sunday when they compete in the Glendale Tournament.
