COSTA MESA - The Orange Coast College women's tennis team began its run as defending state champions by topping Cerritos 6-3 on Tuesday in a nonconference matchup.

Mazaheri topped Jelaine DeGuzman, 6-0, 6-0, while Doran swept past Gabriella Diaz, 6-0, 6-3 in singles action. In doubles, Mazaheri and Heather Morton edged out DeGuzman and Esther Lee, 8-5, while Doran and Evelyn Wallace got the better of Asha Badal and Sonia Gutierrez, 8-6.
Wallace (6-1, 6-0) and Mahtab Davatolhagh (7-5, 6-1) also earned singles wins for OCC.
The Pirates return to action on Tuesday when they play at Cuyamaca, beginning at 2 p.m.
