Men's tennis tops L.A. Pierce for season-opening win

LOS ANGELES - The Orange Coast College men's tennis team opened the 2007 with a convincing 8-1 win over host L.A. Pierce on Feb. 1. Andy Ong swept through his singles sets without losing a single game to lead the Pirates' strong all-around play. Other singles' wins came from Jon Kroopf (6-1, 1-6, 6-2), Pat Lam (6-3, 6-0), David Stacy (6-3, 6-2) and Kevin Kordestani (4-0, retired). In doubles action, Ong and Stacy made quick work of Marvin Banks and Enrique Lewin of L.A. Pierce, 8-2. Kroopf and Lam topped Murt Lewin and Nooshad Simno 8-4, while Kordestani and Charlie Nguyen took care of Long Pao and Rodrik Gharasemian, 8-6. The Pirates will play on Thursday against Southwestern at home, beginning at 2 p.m. From there, OCC will travel to Palomar to take on the Comets on Feb. 15, beginning at 2 p.m.
