Track and Field: Pirates fare well at OEC Relays

SANTA ANA - The Orange Coast College men's and women's track teams opened their 2007 season at the Orange Empire Conference Relays and both squads took home top-three finishes.
The OCC men finished second overall with 164 points (Riverside won with 203.5 points), while the women finished third with a team total of 73 points (Riverside took first with 151).
Keneta Faagata won both the shot put (45 feet, 9 inches) and the discus (142-2), leading the way for the OCC men.
Kyle Peterson took home first place in the pole vault (15-0) and placed second in the 110-meter high hurdles (16.3 seconds).
The Pirates finished 1-2 in the long jump. Chris Macke won the event with a mark of 20-7 1/4, while teammate Clint Parga was right behind with a 19-11 1/2.
Chris Pfeifer topped the field in the 400 intermediate hurdles with a time of 58.8.
Second-place finishes include George Prior in the javelin (168-6), the OCC 400 relay team (43.8), 1,600 relay (3:27.8) and the 4,000 distance medley (10:59.7).
On the women's side, Brittany Ickes opened her season with a first-place throw in the javelin (106-4), while on the track, the Pirates' 3,200 relay team crossed the finish line first with a time of 10:45.7.
Also finishing first was the OCC 4,000 distance medley team with a time of 13:28.0.
Second-place times went to Brenda Finney in the 100 low hurdles (17.2) and the Pirates' 1,600 relay team (4:18.8).
Shot putter Hester Chang finished third with a throw of 32-1.
