Softball: Pirates blanked by Santa Ana

SANTA ANA - The Orange Coast College softball team dropped an 8-0 decision to host Santa Ana on Wednesday in the Orange Empire Conference opener for both teams.
A double by Janae Rivera was the lone hit for the Pirates (1-8, 0-1) as Dons pitcher Mallory Marquez pitched five innings to pick up the complete-game win. She walked none and struck out two along the way.
Marquez was just as imposing at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a run and two RBI for the Dons (6-2, 1-0).
OCC will return to action on Friday at Santiago Canyon, beginning at 3 p.m.
