COSTA MESA - Freshman guard Courtney Ford, a valuable piece to Orange Coast College's conference championship puzzle, has been named the Commission on Athletics Female Student Athlete of the Month for January for all of California, according to a recent press release from the COA.
Ford, a 5-foot-7 freshman from Villa Park HS, helped lead OCC to a 9-0 record in January, averaging 18.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.7 steals per game, including five 20-point games along the way.
For the season, Ford has averaged 20.0 points per game (7th in the state and 1st among freshmen), 7.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game (12th in the state), helping the Pirates to a 27-3 record, 13-0 in the Orange Empire Conference.
Ford is the first OCC athlete to win this award since December 2005 when women's volleyball standout Kiwi Winkler was honored.
