Track & Field: Pirates run past Santa Ana, Santiago Canyon

COSTA MESA - The Orange Coast College men's and women's track and field teams took care of business on Friday, topping Santa Ana and Santiago Canyon in a double-dual meet at Coast.
 
The Pirate men topped Santa Ana 101-43 and Santiago Canyon 135-6, while the OCC women ran past the Dons 100-25 and the Hawks 80-50.
 
Winners for the OCC men include 400-meter relay (43.65 seconds), Brandon Babiracki in the 1,500 (4:04.22) and the 800 (1:57.71), Kyle Peterson in the 110 high hurdles (16.82) and the high jump (6-feet) and the pole vault (14-3, tie with Trevor Schuelser), Morgan Rose in the 400 (50.77), Josh Strickland in the 100 (11.34) and the 200 (22.92), Chris Pfeifer in the 400 (59.28), the 1,600 relay team (3:30.93), Chris Macke in the long jump (22-10 1/2) and the high jump (6-0), Scott Burbach in the javelin throw (189-4) and Clint Parga in the triple jump (41-1/2).
 
Winners for the OCC women include Brenda Finney in the 100 hurdles (18.6), Madison Empting in the 400 (1:02.83) and the 200 (28.62), Erendira Uriostegui in the 800 (2:24.4), Tirza Mejia in the 400 hurdles (1:18.16), the 400 relay team (4:29.22) and Brittany Ickes in the javelin throw (104-2).
 
OCC will return to the track on Feb. 23 in the Cerritos Invitational, beginning at 5 p.m. and continuing at 9 a.m. on Feb. 24.
