Women's Basketball: Pirates to host San Bernadino Valley
Tuesday, February 20, 2007

COSTA MESA - For the Orange Coast College women's basketball team, the road to Fresno will begin and end at the Basil Peterson Gymnasium.

Earning a No. 4 seed, the Pirates (28-3) will host San Bernardino Valley (19-9) on Friday after earning a first-round bye.

OCC earned a No. 4 seed and the bye after sweeping through the Orange Empire Conference (14-0), a conference that was second only to the Foothill Conference in combined wins (133-132) and second only to Garden Valley Conference in winning percentage (.643-.550).

If the Pirates win, they will host the Bracket D finals on March 3 against the winner between No. 12 Santa Barbara and No. 5 Fullerton.

"As far as the brackets went, we couldn't have asked for anything more," OCC head coach Mike Thornton said. "To be able to stay at home for the playoffs is always a great advantage."
