COSTA MESA - The Orange Coast College women's tennis team opened the Orange Empire Conference by slipping past visiting Saddleback 5-4 on Tuesday.
With the contest tied at four matches apiece, the Pirates' No. 3 doubles team of Mahtab Davatolhagh and Diane Pham took care of business and won 8-2 to clinch the win for OCC (4-0, 1-0).
In singles play, No. 1 singles player Jaleh Mazaheri needed three sets before finally topping Saddleback's Erina Hung, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0.
K.D. Doran and Davatolhagh each won their first sets 7-6 before prevailing in straight sets.
In fact, the only Pirate to succeed without the need of a tiebreaker or a third set was Evelyn Wallace, who topped Nisa Mienike, 6-3, 6-3.
OCC will return to action on Thursday at Fullerton, beginning at 2 p.m.
