Track & Field: Several Pirates fare well at Cerritos Invitational

CERRITOS - Competing against some of the top athletes in the state, the Orange Coast College track and field team more than held their own this past weekend at the Cerritos Invitational.
On the men's side, Brandon Babiracki picked up a pair of first-place times, winning the 800 meters (1 minute, 54.93 seconds) and the 1,500 (3:58.49).
In the discus Keneti Faagata earned a fourth-place mark with a throw of 145 feet, 11 inches.
Javelin thrower Scott Burbach finished sixth with a mark of 172-5.
In the 400 hurdles, Chris Pfeifer ran to a seventh-place time of 58.2
On the women's side, Brittany Ickes took home the gold in the javelin, with a winning throw of 107-7.
Pole vaulter Jade Leblanc placed fifth with a height of 9-0.
Erendira Uriostegui placed fifth in both the 800 (2:23.2) and the 1,500 (4:55.46).
In the 3,000 steeplechase, a pair of Pirates cracked the top-10. Melinda Rackliffe placed sixth with a time of 12:48.93, while teammate Claire Fleming took eighth with a time of 13:21.09.
In the 400 hurdles, Tirza Mejia finished seventh with a time of 1:17.42.
