Swimming: Pirate men win Mt. SAC Invitational; Women place third

WALNUT - It was a solid day of swimming and diving for the Orange Coast College men's and women's swim teams as they finished first and third, respectively, at the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational last weekend.
The Pirate men won the meet with a team score of 636. Ventura finished a distant second with 422.5 and Chaffey (321) placed third.
Justin Taylor was the top swimmer of the meet for OCC, winning the 1-meter diving event with 219.90 points and the 3-meter with 238.05 points.
Another Pirate double-winner came from Damien Bernard, who won both the 100-yard butterfly (51.75 seconds) and the 200 fly (1:58.49). He also placed second in the 50 free with a time of 22.08.
Three Pirate relay teams - the 200 medley (1:38.61), the 400 free (3:14.96) and the 800 free (7:10.26) - each placed first to give OCC's point total a huge boost.
On the women's side, the Pirates placed third with 355.5 points, behind Sierra (460.5) and Grossmont (392.5).
Nikki Burrelli placed second in both the 1-meter (219.90) and 3-meter diving events (238.05).
The 800 free relay squad placed second with a time of 8:31.28, while the 400 free relay squad finished third with a time of 3:53.81.

The Pirates will return to the pool on Friday when they travel to Fullerton to take on the Hornets, beginning at 2 p.m.
