Orange Coast College women's basketball standout Courtney Ford was a first-team All-State selection, becoming just the fourth Pirate to ever earn such an honor.
"Courtney is one of the most competitive players that I have coached in my 18 years at Coast," OCC head coach Mike Thornton said. "She is one of those rare players who loves to have the ball in her hands at the end of close games. She is fearless and always wants to take the big shot."
Ford averaged 20.3 points per game -- tops among all freshmen in the state. She also averaged 7.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 3.2 steals per game, earning Orange Empire Conference Most Valuable Player honors.
"Barring any injuries, she undoubtedly will end up near the top of a list of career statistic lists when she completes her career at Coast," Thornton said. "The really good thing is as far as our team is concerned, she can and hopefully will continue to improve and be a better player next season."
Ford joins just three other Pirate greats - LeAnn Kazmer (1994), Jamie Shine (1996) and Jennifer Ludwicki (1998) to earn first-team, All-State honors.
"She's is in great company with LeAnn, Jamie and Jennifer," Thornton said. "Courtney will be one of our tri-captains next year and hopefully will help lead us to another successful and championship season.
The Pirates finished the season with a record of 28-4 overall, 14-0 in the OEC. It was the Pirates first-ever perfect run through their conference schedule. They were upset in the first round of the playoffs by San Bernardino Valley, 61-59.
