Swimming: OCC women win Cuesta Invitational; men finish second

SAN LUIS OBISPO - With several solid times, the Orange Coast College men's and women's swim teams each continued their impressive season at the 29th Cuesta Swimming and Diving Invitational this past weekend.
The Pirate women's team topped the field and won the meet with a team score of 486.5, edging out Santa Rosa (462) and Ventura (446).
Nikki Burrelli took first place in the 1-meter diving competition (248.35 points), while OCC's 200-yard freestyle relay (1 minute, 45.62 seconds) and 200 medley relay (1:58.72) teams each took home first-place honors.
The OCC men finished second overall with a team score of 479.5, behind team winner Ventura (684). Cuesta finished third with 363.83 points.
Winners for the Pirate men include Joe Krone in the 200 individual medley (2:00.20) and 200 backstroke (2:00.16) and Elden Carpenter in the 400 individual medley (4:27.83). OCC's 400 medley relay (3:39.08) also took home the gold.
OCC hosts Santa Ana in a dual meet on Thursday, beginning at 10 am.
