COSTA MESA - Lots of first-place performances took place for the Orange Coast College men's and women's track teams as they defeated a less-populated Golden West squad on Friday.
The Pirate women rolled past the Rustlers 105-24, while the men cruised to a 115-30 win.
Hester Chang, who set a new school record in the hammer throw last week, padded her record with a mark of 145 feet, 5 inches, topping her previous-best of 143-8. The Pirate sophomore also took first in the shot put (29-8 1/2) and discus (86-9).
Other multiple winners for the Pirates include Brenda Finney in the high jump (4-10) and long jump (15-9) and Erendira Uriostegui in the 800- (2 minutes, 25.06 seconds) and 1,500-meter runs (5:11.99).
Other OCC wins came from Tirza Mejia in the 100 (13.3), Kristin Glen in the 3,000 (11:52.9), Jade Leblanc in the pole vault (10-0), Jacqueline Minite in the triple jump (25-1), Brittany Ickes in the javelin (117-1) and Pirates' 400 relay team of Madison Empting, Finney, Mejia and Leblanc (53.09).
For the men, perhaps the busiest Pirate was George Prior, who placed second in the high jump (5-10), jumped a personal-best 21-6 in the long jump, threw 42-9 in the shot put and won the javelin with a throw of 185-0.
