COSTA MESA - The Orange Coast College softball team picked up its first Orange Empire Conference win in over two years with a 3-2 triumph over Santiago Canyon on Friday.
OCC scored all of its runs in the second inning. Paulina Rodriguez led things off with a walk and went to second when Felicia Leal reached on an error. A fielder's choice by Chelsea Evers put runners on first and third before Ashley Coia came through with a single to center, scoring Rodriguez and giving the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
Two batters later, Laura Salcido ripped a double to left, scoring Evers and Leal for a 3-0 advantage.
SCC added a pair of runs in the sixth and had runners on first and second with one out in the seventh, before Evers finished off her complete-game win by inducing a groundout and a flyout to end the threat.
OCC will return to action on Monday at Riverside, beginning at 6 p.m.
