COSTA MESA - The Orange Coast College women's tennis team opened the Southern California Dual Team Playoffs with authority, blanking Grossmont 5-0 on Tuesday at OCC.
Tuesday's sweep was a stark contrast to last year's memorable regional semifinal contest that took nearly six hours to complete, with OCC hanging on for a 5-4 win en route to the state championship.
One familar face to both matchups was sophomore Jaleh Mazaheri, who made quick work of Joanna Moya, 6-1 6-1.
Other singles wins came from Heather Morton (6-1, 6-0), Evelyn Wallace (6-1, 6-2), K.D. Doran (6-1, 6-0) and Mahtab Davatolhagh (6-2, 6-1) as the Pirates (13-1) won 60 of the 70 games played against the Griffins.
OCC will remain at home for the next round of the playoffs and will take on the winner of the matchup between Riverside and Rio Hondo next Tuesday at 2 p.m.
