IRVINE - Irvine Valley College struck for two quick goals in the first half and held on for a 2-0 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Orange Coast.
A pair of goals by Lasers forward Diana Suarez in the 9th and 13th minutes, repectively, were just enough offense for the Lasers (1-7-0, 1-3-0 in conference). OCC (1-6-1, 1-3-1) cut the deficit in half in the 52nd minute when Loren Kortizija rifled a corner kick to teammate Shannon Arnold, who slipped a shot past the IVC goalkeeper. However, the Pirates could not get the equalizer as the game continued.
Katie Johnson had two saves for OCC, while Lasers' netminder Lupe Jimenez had seven.
The Pirates return to action on Friday at home against Santa Ana, beginning at 3 p.m.
