COSTA MESA - Despite several excellent scoring opportunities, the Orange Coast College women's soccer team had to settle for a 1-1 tie with visiting Santa Ana on Friday in Orange Empire Conference action.
The Pirates (1-6-2, 1-3-2 in conference) found the back of the net in the 79th minute. Trailing 1-0, OCC forward Shannon Arnold flicked a nice header onto the feet of teammate Beth Krikorian, who chipped in a shot past Dons' goalkeeper Ely Ureno (three saves) to even the score.
Santa Ana (2-5-2, 1-1-2) snapped the scoreless tie in the 59th minute off a free kick as Kathy Lee King sent a nice ball to Nancy Garcia, who slid a shot past Pirates' netminder Katie Johnson (three saves).
Despite the even score, the game was played for the most part on the Dons' side of the field as the Pirates kept the pressure on.
Early in the first half, Krikorian had a nice scoring opportunity, but her shot banged off the top of the goal to keep the game scoreless.
In the 87th minute, Krikorian sent a nice touch pass to Arnold, but shot went just missed the corner of the goal and went out of play.
OCC will return to action on Friday at home against Cypress, beginning at 3 p.m.
