ORANGE -- After a strong first half, the Orange Coast College men's soccer team watched a 2-1 lead disappear in the second half as Santiago Canyon rallied for a 3-2 Orange Empire Conference win on Friday.
OCC (6-6-4, 2-4-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute on a breakaway goal by Jarred Balbas, his team-best seventh goal of the season.
After SCC (10-3-2, 5-2-1) tied the game in the 37th minute, the Pirates retook the lead when John Shinjo sent a corner kick right to the head of teammate Brian Siemonsma, who buried it into the back of the net for a 2-1 advantage.
But the lead wouldn't last as the Hawks tied the game in the second half, before adding the game-winner by David Aguilar in the 84th minute.
OCC goalkeeper Dane Fernandez had five saves.
The Pirates return home to take on Riverside on Tuesday, beginning at 3 p.m.
