Women's Volleyball: Pirates sweep past Gauchos

COSTA MESA - The Orange Coast College women's volleyball team posted a 30-17, 30-20, 30-14 win over visiting Saddleback on Wednesday in Orange Empire Conference action.
Coming off a tough four-game loss to Irvine Valley last week, the Pirates (12-3, 6-2 in conference) came out aggressive against the Gauchos (4-9. 1-7) and took control from the opening whistle.
Jacqi Reed led the Pirates' offense with 13 kills and chipped in eight digs on defense. Jessica Roy added 11 kills and five blocks, while on defense, the twosome of Jenna Harp and Deirdre Fiapai combined for 17 digs.
Emily Lyon paced the offense with 40 assists for the Pirates.
Saddleback was led offensively by outside hitter Hannah McElroy, who had seven kills.
OCC returns to action on Friday at Cypress, beginning at 7 p.m. Following another road match at Fullerton on Wednesday, Oct. 31, the Pirates will be back in the Peterson Gym on Friday, Nov. 2 against Santa Ana, also at 7.
