Football: Mohler named Mission Conference Defensive Player of the Week

Orange Coast College linebacker Shaun Mohler, Palomar College quarterback Hunter Wanket, and Long Beach City College kicker/punter Dustin Abrams have been named Week 7 Mission Football Conference Players of the Week for their performances on the field. Mohler (OLB, 6-3, 225, So., Corona del Mar HS, pictured left) was all over the field and made his presence felt in Orange Coast’s 35-34 overtime win against Fullerton. Mohler totaled 17 tackles (six solo, two tackles for loss). His interception halted a Fullerton drive deep in OCC territory. Mohler was also credited 1.5 sacks on his way to defensive player of the week honors. Wanket (QB, 6-4, 220, So., Torrey Pines HS) was nearly perfect in Palomar’s big 44-7 win over Long Beach to be named offensive player of the week. Wanket threw for 257 yards on 24-for-27 passing with four touchdowns and no interceptions. He tossed three of those TD to Tobias Shanks (14, 26, 2 yards) and added a 41-yard TD to Maurice Peterson. Wanket also ran for 42 yards.
Abrams (K/P, 6-1, 185, Fr., Los Alamitos, CA/Los Alamitos HS) averaged 41.9 yards on eight punts, He nailed a conference-best 72-yard punt and placed two punts inside Palomar’s 20 yard line. Abrams also averaged 66.5 yards on two kickoffs in LBCC’s loss to Palomar to pick up special teams player of the week honors.

David Reed, WR, 6-0, 180, So, New London (Connecticut) -- Tied a school record for most receptions in a game with 13 and set PCC's new mark for most receiving yards in a contest with 237 yards. Reed also passed Gavin Peries (60 catches, 1995) as the college's single-season receptions leader with 70 catches. The Connecticut native leads the state in receiving with 1,149 yards and his eight touchdowns lead the team. Reed pulled in a 23-yard TD pass in the second quarter. In his 15-game career as a Lancer, he has 110 receptions for 1,860 yards and 19 touchdowns (all career school receiving marks).
