Women's Volleyball: Pirates sweep away Santa Ana
Sunday, November 04, 2007

COSTA MESA -- With three conferences matches remaining, the Orange Coast College women's volleyball team maintained its participation in the Orange Empire Conference logjam with a three-game sweep over Santa Ana on Friday, 30-25, 30-22, 30-19.

While Irvine Valley (18-0, 11-0 in the OEC) looks to clinch the conference crown, three other teams -- Fullerton (15-4, 8-3), Golden West (15-4, 8-3) and the Pirates (14-4, 8-3) are all fighting for the highest seeding possible as the Southern California Regionals get closer and closer.

With all four of the aforementioned OEC teams sitting in the top-five of the latest state-wide polls, every win is huge coming down the stretch and the Pirates' schedule puts them in a position to have some control over their own destiny.

Two of the last three matches for the Pirates will be at Golden West on Tuesday (7 p.m.) and home against Irvine Valley (6 p.m.) to conclude the season on Nov. 14. They host Riverside on Friday at 7 in between those two matches.

Against the Dons, Jacqi Reed led the offense with 14 kills, while Jessica Roy provided a nice additional option with 10 kills in the middle. Jenna Harp and Kayla Cutler each posted eight digs and Emily Lyon dished out 36 assists.

Santa Ana was led by Gina Brock's 16 kills and Diana Quezada's 21 digs.
