COSTA MESA -- Led by sophomore standout Shaun Mohler, 10 Orange Coast College football players were selected for this year's All-Mission Conference team, as voted on by the coaches of each college.
Mohler, a 6-foot-3, 217-pound linebacker from Corona del Mar High School, was named as the conference's Co-Defensive Player of the Year, sharing the honor with El Camino's Simi Kuli. Through nine games, Mohler leads the conference with 83 tackles, with a conference-best 22 tackles for loss. His 5.5 sack ranks him seventh among conference defenders.
Four other Pirates earned first-team honors -- Dean DeLeone, Chris Holmesly and Shad Baichtal on defense and kick returner Nathan Barnett on offense.
DeLeone, a 6-2, 235-pound freshman defensive end, was ninth among all tacklers with 65 tackles (25 solo) with 15 tackles for a loss.
Holmesly, a 5-10, 185-pound sophomore defensive back, garnered 50 tackles (27 solo) with two interceptions and 10 pass breakups.
Baichtal, a 5-9, 160-pound freshman defensive back, really picked up some steam among voters last week with his three-interception performance against Long Beach. He currently leads the conference with six interceptions.
Barnett, a 5-9, 180-pound kickoff returner and wide receiver, led the conference with 601 return yards from kickoffs and averaged 27.3 yards per attempt.
Second-team honors for the Pirates went to freshman running back Kevin Ah-Hi (165 carries, 738 yards, five touchdowns), freshman tight end Bill Brown (12 catches 126 yards, tremendous blocker) and sophomore center Randy Seton on offense.
On defense, freshman Alipate Tokomaata (14 tackles, four for loss, two sacks, two QB hurries) and sophomore inside linebacker Matt Harris (63 tackles, 28 solo, 14 TFL, 2.5 sacks) round out the Pirate standouts.
