Men's Basketball: Pirates drop pair at L.A. Southwest Tournament
Monday, December 10, 2007

LOS ANGELES -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball team went 0-2 at the L.A. Southwest Intensity Classic, losing to El Camino 80-65 on Friday and host L.A. Southwest 68-59 on Saturday.

Against the Warriors, the Pirates were led offensively by Brian Hellmuth, who had 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Matthew Ching added 13 points, Shaun Engle produced 12 points and Eric O'Mahony dropped in 10 points, but 27 OCC turnovers proved too much to overcome.

Kris Lawrie led the Warriors with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Marcellus Cullors added 18 points and nine rebounds.

On Saturday, it was a cold-shooting night for the Pirates (3-8) as they shot just 29.5 percent for the game (18-of-61) and were outrebounded 55-36 by L.A. Southwest.

Shaun Engle led OCC with 16 points. Eules Thompson led the Cougars with 18 points, while Chris Smith added 17 points and seven rebounds.

The Pirates return to action on Thursday against Antelope Valley at the Vaquero Classic, held at Glendale College. Gametime is set for 7 p.m.
